The British felt betrayed when it came to the Sugar Act. They felt that they had been generous to the colonists since they had only planned it to be used for securing colonial borders, but the colonists that it was for their own selfish gain.

∙ 14y agoThe colonists either boycotted sugar or smuggled it from other countries. The colonists thumbed there noses at the sugar act. In fact, there was actually a standard bribe that was acceptable to both the colonists and the exicise men.

∙ 9y agoThe colonists did not like the Sugar Act for a few reasons. It was their first regulated tax, it was considered too high, and they did not get any British Parliament representation despite being taxed.

∙ 9y agoThe colonists were mad about the sugar act because it caused a tax on sugar, molasses, tea and coffee. One of the arguments that the colonists had was 'No taxation without representation!' That is the main reason why the colonists protested it. Although we might not think it today, tea was a very popular drink back then, and when people started not to be able to pay the tax on it, the settlers grew mad. The result of this madness is the Boston Tea Party.
This statement is wrong. In fact parliament LOWERED the tax which angered the colonist because they thought the king was trying to put them out of business. The reason the king passed the sugar act and lowered the taxes was because the colonists were smuggling goods and he lowered the taxes to prevent them from smuggling but it made the situation worse.
