Originally, the Dutch established a colony at the southern tip of Africa, named by the Portugese as the "Cape of Good Hope". Beginning in 1652, the Dutch brought in slaves from Indonesia and India and colonized the area around Cape Town. After the French Revolution, the British took over the Cape from 1795 to 1803. The British again annexed the region following the failure of the Dutch East India Company in 1806. The administration of British areas led to later conflicts with the states established by the Dutch settlers (the Boer Wars, 1880 and 1899). After much development as a colony, South Africa was established as a Commonwealth realm, under a Governor General, in 1910. It became a separate republic in 1961.
In 1910 the Union of South Africa (Under British Authority) was formed from the British Cape Colony and Natal Colony and the Free Boer States of the South African Republic and the Orange Free State. Later in 1961 it became a Republic seperating from Britain and electing its own leaders (white only votes till 1994) becoming known as the Republic of South Africa (as it is today)

South Africa is well known for many things, here is what I know, Up until 1994, South Africa was known for apartheid, or white-minority rule. * Answer ** The First Boer war was mostly made up of isolated incidents to neutralize British garrisons within Transvaal, and then about three battles in the northern reaches of Natal to stop the British from sending aid to these forces. ** The Second Boer War (which is probably the one referred to) was fought mainly in the northern half of South Africa, though some raids to the south did take place during the guerrilla phase of the war.
Notably the Zulu. However, at the time of British conquest, much of South Africa was empty of people and it must be noted that Zulu also "took over" when they arrived (as part of the Bantu migrations). Who is "Taking over" is a matter of the perspective of the person teaching you history.
The Cape Colony in South Africa was first ruled by the Dutch. It was ruled by the Dutch Republic from 1652 to 1795 at which point the British took over.
Kind of. The first colony in modern-day South Africa was the Cape Colony which was owned by the Dutch. The British took the Dutch territory over in 1806 and colonized the rest of South Africa themselves. South Africa gained partial independence in 1910 and full independence in 1931. They retained close ceremonial and economic ties until 1961.
Normans took over France and the British Isles, but also took over parts of Italy, Northern Africa, and the Middle East.
