Rehoboam was the king of the two tribe kingdom of Judah and Benjamin. For a time Rehoboam walked closely to the laws of Jehovah the Universal Sovereign. However, when his kingship was firmly established he abandoned Jehovah's worship and led Judah in the practice of detestable sex and idol worship (1Kings 14:22-24; 2Chronicles 12:1). This in turn provoked Jehovah's anger and in expression of it he raised up the king of Egypt, Shishak who together with his allies overran the land and captured a number of cities in Judah in the fifth year of Rehoboam's reign. However, because of Rehoboam's and his princes humbled themsleves in repentance, Jerusalem was spared. Nonetheless, the treasures of the temple in Jerusalem and the king's house, including the gold shields that Solomon had made, were taken by Shishak as his spoil 1Kings 14:25-28; 2Chronicles 12:2-12 (New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures). II Chron 11:21 Rehoboam
God knows.
God punish him.
yes, it hurts
Rehoboam (Rechav'am).Rehoboam's father, King Solomon, had levied relatively heavy taxes, which had been used for such large-scale endeavors as building the First Temple. After Solomon's death, the people approached his son Rehav'am (Rehoboam) and asked that he lower the taxes. He ignored the counsel of his elder advisers and refused the people's request. This led the Ten Tribes to turn away from him (1 Kings ch.12).The background reason was because King Solomon had been less than perfectly righteous. This led God to punish him by diminishing his dynasty in the lifetime of his son (Rehoboam). 1 Kings ch.11.A deeper reason is that God wanted the more righteous people of Judah to be influenced by the Ten Tribes as little as possible.See also:Solomon's errorsJewish history timeline

Devil does not punish sinners because he wants everyone to sin. Angels do not punish in the Bible except under God's command because it is God who can punish. It is God's authority and God's alone. Because Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins and through God's grace, forgiveness and not punishment is what He desires.
