Brazil was once a colony of Portugal in the Americas, but it eventually got its independence after a relatively short war (1822 - 1825).

To this day, many cultural traits are shared by Brazil, which is a Latin American country, and Portugal. The most important would be language (Portuguese), religion (Roman Catholicism) and things such as Day of the Dead, Christmas and Holly Week (Easter).
