Either by Taxi, fastest and easiest, or by bus. Otherwise, renting a car is a good option also.
In terms of direction, you exit the airport to the #1 Highway and continue east to Jerusalem on the same highway.
It's less than an hour's drive.
There are several ways to get from the airport in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem - bus, shared taxi, private taxi, private car or train. On how to get to Jerusalem using any of the above options, see the detailed tips at the link below.
There are several options
Take the #480 bus from the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem. The trip takes
around an hour and costs NIS18. This bus travels to the Central Train Station
(also called "Savidor" or "Arlozorov") in Tel Aviv with a minimum of stops. Once
at the train station, you have two options:
1. Take the #90 "Metropoline" bus to the beach in Herzliya Pituach. The bus runs at least once
every 30 minutes, and costs NIS10.40. The trip takes approximately 30 minutes. The bus stop
is not located in the main parking lot where the bus from Jerusalem arrives. You have to walk
less than 5 minutes west to the main road (Derech Namir) and look for the correct stop. (Do
not cross the road; the bus travels north.)
2. Take a train to the Herzliya Train Station. (Trains run once or twice an hour, depending on the
time of day, and take 15-20 minutes.) You can then walk (about 10-15 minutes), take the #29 bus,
or take a cab to Herzliya Pituach.
NOTE: Herzliya (where the train station is located) is east of Herzliya Pituach. The
Mediterranean shore is the western edge of Herzliya Pituach - 15-20 minutes walk
from the eastern edge of HP. So the question of whether or not to walk from the
train station may depend on where exactly in HP you want to go. The total walk
from the train station to the shore could be as much as 30 minutes.

The driving distance from Jerusalem, Israel to Tel Aviv, Israel is 39.54 miles. The time it takes to make the drive is around 45 minutes.
Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
Jerusalem does not have an airport, so you would have to fly into Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. From Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is an hour and change depending on traffic. Detroit to Ben Gurion would be 13 hours theoretically if you could get a direct flight. I have never seen such a direct flight, so it would take 13 hours + 1.2 hours + layover time.
