Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) is a network of intracellular membranes, it links the plasma membrane and other membraneous organelles. it is involved in the production, processing, transport and storage of materials within a cell.

Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER), is assosisated with ribosomes, where proteins are made.

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum(SER), lacks ribosomes and is involved in the metabolism of certain compounds and synthesis of lipids.

Rough ER looks like a maze and smooth ER looks like a sculpture.

Another thing is that the Rough ER has ribosomes on it while the Smooth ER doesnt.

Name the two kinds of endoplasmic reticulum?

Two types of Endoplasmic Reticuli exists, the rough endoplasmic reticulum and the smooth endoplasmic reticulum. The rough endoplasmic reticulum is involved in the synthesis of proteins -{from through}- VIA the ribosomes embedded within its structure. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is involved in the synthesis of lipids and steroids.

What structures distinguish rough ER from smooth ER?

The rough endoplasmic reticulum has ribosomes. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum does not.

What is the membranous system that has rough and smooth varieties?

Endoplasmic Reticulum, there is Smooth ER, and Rough ER.

What is the the function of the reticulum?

The endoplasmic reticulum is a packaging system. There is a rough and a smooth endoplasmic reticulum. The rough endoplasmic reticulum is important in the synthesis and packaging of proteins. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum is important in the creation and storage of steroids.

Is the endoplasmic reticulum connected to the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?

No because if they been connected then it be smooth endoplasmic reticulum or the rough endoplasmic reticulum and it will be one of the both :p

How many are endoplasmic reticulum?

There are ribosomes in the rough endoplasmic reticulum, but they are not called cells. The rough endoplasmic reticulum and the ribosomes are all in a cell and ribosomes are organelles in the rough endoplasmic reticulum.

Morphological differences between rough endoplasmic reticulum and smooth endoplasmic reticulum?

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum makes lipids and breaks down toxic material. Rough endoplasmic reticulum makes protein.

What structural feature distinguishes smooth ER from rough ER?

The rough endoplasmic reticulum has ribosomes. The smooth endoplasmic reticulum does not.

How can you tell rough endoplasmic- reticulum from smooth endoplasmic- reticulum?

Rough ER has Ribosomes embedded within it, and smooth ER does not.

Distinguish between the smooth endoplasmic reticulum and the rough endoplasmic reticulum?

The rough endoplasmic reticulum is rough because of the ribosomes, or the things that make proteins in the cell, are attached to it, making it rough. The smooth one is smooth because their are no ribosomes attached to it.

What makes up of two types rough and smooth each with its own function?

The smooth endoplasmic reticulum and the rough endoplasmic reticulum.

What organelles that are sometimes referred to as rough or smooth depending on the structure?

Endoplasmic Reticula (ER) - The three varieties are called rough endoplasmic reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum and sarcoplasmic reticulum.
