You would have to go to an art gallery and talk to one of the managers there and they will be able to tell you if you show it to them. Pablo Picasso did not paint in water colours anyway, he painted in oil. So it may be true that it is a fake but you still might be able to get quite a lot of money for it if you dont want to keep it.

Picasso did paint in watercolours, how to tell if it's original? well if it's for sale in a gallery and the price doesn't have lots of 000's involved, chances are its not an original, but then even if there are lots of 000's it may not be an original

.

If on the otherhand you have found one that is original i certainly would not trust any art gallery managers. Best contact a big auction house like Sotheby's.

Picasso was incredibly prolific, originals will turn up from time to time, check the net for similarities to known work, later watercolours would be easier to authenticate, earlier more likely to turn up but harder to authenticate.

Easiest way tho would be to put it on Ebay as a possible original with a buy it now price of say £80,000 and see if anyone tries to snap it up, if it's original you'll have lost quite a bit of profit, but in the meantime if it is an original many experts will start contacting you to see it in the flesh.... at this point you withdraw the item from sale... and think about hiring a bodyguard.! (:personally i wouldn't put it in a bank vault , call me paranoid but i wouldn't trust them to hand back an original Picasso, as bankers are the worst kind of criminals...:)

If it's definitely not original you'll only get silence.

Hope this helps, and really hope you've found one, can i delete the first response above now pls.... i think he is an art gallery manager!!! dont trust them y'all :)

Oil paintings are obvious when seen in person, as well as acrylic. Watercolors can be a little harder, depending on the style and because they are under glass. The only other current way to reproduce an image is to print it. A very fine pattern of dots will be visible when you look at the image through a printer's glass or high magnification if it is a print. It is a 'real' image, but not the original. There is no way to tell visually on a computer screen.

You can tell a watercolour painting by just looking at it! Watercolours tend to be lighter because of the water required. Watercolour paintings are light. Notice it!

You take it to a gallery or museum and ask for help.

If you have not paid millions for it, it is probably not genuine.

Did Picasso always underline his name?

No. some of his original paintings were never underlined. It was later that he underlined his name. I have an original Picasso that was not underlined. but he did always capitalize his P. If you can find early Picasso's that were not underlined they can easily be worth many millions. Good luck and best wishes.
