Sand itself doesnt take the shape of the container its all of sand put together that takes theshape of a container. if you just get a single grain of sand...its not going to take the shape. you need a lot of it.

I think sand is INSOLUBLE because it never desolves. example: the sea has a massive amount of sand in it, and if sand WAS soluble most of the sand would have been gone buy now.

Other AnswersThere are two different kinds of solubility: in water (hydrophilic) and in fats (lipophilic), in other words solubility in polar substances and in nonpolar substances. Sand is chemically seen a mixture of different substances, some of them polar (salts) and some nonpolar (organic material), so it depends on the specific makeup of the sand you have. When you put sand in water, the hydrophilic components will be soluted, the remaining substances will give the water a usually yellowish clouding and eventually settle at the bottom.

Sand has not a fixed chemical formula; sand may be silicon dioxide, calcium carbonate, lava and many others. The solubility in water of chemical compounds is very variable.

And also compounds with covalent bonding have a very low solubility.

1- sand has a specific volume but a gas does not, 2-sand can not adopt a shape of drop while liquids do, 3- sand has the visible particles while a liquid and a gas does not, 4- sand has a melting point while liquids and gases do not, so sand is a solid material.

This is because water cannot break the bonds between silica(sand/SiO2/Silicon dioxide).

yes it is because it doesnt change shape though when you have a whole lot of sand it will change shape but one grain of sand will not change shape
