It depends if you are trying to put it on and it won't work, or if it doesn't say it is designed for it. If you are trying to put it on and it won't work, you can't get it to work. If it says it isn't designed for it, it only means it was designed to have a different Operating System. So, it might work. But if it is a really old laptop, chances are it won't work.
