What work must you do to gain eternal life?

Scripture says "And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?" And he ed, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." And he said to him, "You have ed right; do this, and you will live." (Luke Ch 10)

In regard to eternal life Scripture says "Eye has not seen or ear heard nor the heart of man conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him". So it seems that we will only know what eternal life is like when we get there.

Firstly there must be an awareness that without Jesus Christ as savior there is no eternal life. Once lostness is acknowledged and there is a real desire to turn away from it to the truth the second step is to accept Jesus Christ as savior. This can be done very simply by asking Him to and He has promised He will not turn away anyone who comes to Him. Once a person is then accepting in a real and personal sense (not as a formula or religious rite or ritual but as a real personal decision and affirmation) of what Jesus has done for them in dieing for them, that their wrongs can be removed, then they receive the assurance that they will at some future time benefit from eternal life.

In order for anyone to benefit from eternal life he/she must be able to endure perpetual repetition. You must be able to find contentment in having the same things occurring every day for eternity. It will be like having Christmas every day with the same things to eat, drink and do while existing in the same place for eternity. The simple and most important fact of life is that good cannot be appreciated without bad. Life simply becomes redundant without the pairs of opposites like hot/cold, wet/dry, high/low, happy/sad, light/dark etc.

Well, in the teachings of Jesus, it is definite that eternal life will come, it depends on which kind. Heaven or hell. Everyone is a sinner because of our true ancestors, Adam and Eve (Read Genesis). For heaven, sins must be confessed and you must ask for forgiveness of them. You cant just assume you will go to heaven because of Christianity. As for hell, as i said before we are all sinners, if sins are denied and are not asked for forgiveness, there you go! Eternity in the oven!

As for how long eternity is, imagine a parakeet or any other small bird. Command it grain by grain to take each tiny grain of sand on Earth one by one to the moon. For how long for each grain, 1,000,000 years there, and 1,000,000 years back. Think of how many grains of sand are on the Earth. Take a bucket of sand and count every grain in that. You would think that is close to an eternity. Then think of the ocean, beaches such as Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head island, the Hawaiian islands, and then deserts such as the Sahara. Don't forget the oceans either. Imagine draining the seas and having the bird take every grain of sand in the oceans. Remember, 71.1 percent of Earth is covered by ocean, so that would be more that a dozen Sahara deserts. That is just a spec of eternity. Not even a day. Not Even a second. So how do you want to spend it?

Accept Jesus' payment for your sins, and let Him be Lord of your life. Trust that when He died on the cross, He took your sin upon Him and died so you can live. He defeated death and the power it had over us, now we are free. He paid our debt, what we deserved for ALL the evil things we've done. This question was posed to the Lord Jesus when He was on the earth and listen to His reply in the Gospel of Luke

Luk 18:20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

Luk 18:22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

The only work you must do is this: Receive it! Meaning, by faith in the Creator God that He will make you righteous and take away your sins, you can have full assurance that you have (present tense) spiritual life. The Lord God, after you accept His free gift of eternal life through faith, gives you the Holy Spirit- an eternal gift. A Christian might slip up and sin from time to time, but he/she will not lose eternal life because it is a free gift that cannot be earned nor kept by ones own works.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son (to bear the full penalty of sin and death on behalf of all mankind) that whosoever believes shall not perish but have ETERNAL life." - John 3:16

John 17:3 - "This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ."

John 3:16 - "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life."

Coming to know God and Jesus Christ would involve reading the bible and cultivating faith in a continuous way. Exercising that faith implies that we would need to take action based on the faith we have developed from The Bible.

Several religions have criteria for life eternal. None of them agree what that criteria is.
