What is ping?
Ping is a simple command line network tool that you can use to verify your connectivity to a network.
How does ping help me?
Ping will allow you to quickly determine the status of your connectivity on the network. Ping another computer on your local network to determine if your network connection is functioning properly, then ping an internet resource to determine if your connection to the outside world is functional.
Why should I ping?
Ping will help you determine if your network connection is completely failed, or if you are only isolated from specific networks. For example, if you are suddenly unable to browse web pages, you may have been disconnected from the Internet but still be connected to your local network. You can make this determination by pinging the appropriate local or remote addresses.
Which website should I ping?
You should ping popular web sites that are known to always be there. For example, Yahoo.com or Google.com. These sites have a high level of redundancy in their networks and are most likely to respond.
Should I ping a domain?
Pinging a domain, such as google.com, will test your DNS service. DNS will translate the domain name to an IP address. If your DNS server is unreachable, you will not be able to browse the Internet using standard URL's such as www.yahoo.com
Do I need to ping the same URL more then once?
If you are able to access network resources without any trouble, there is no need to ping, otherwise you might want to run multiple ping tests against the same resource until you can determine that it is available.
Examples:
* ping <computer name>
** this will ping another computer on your local network by name, which will test your lmhosts, WINS, etc.
* ping 192.168.1.1
** this will ping another computer using the IP address of the other machine.
* ping www.google.com
** this will ping a computer by dereferencing it's domain name, and will test your DNS.
* ping /?
** this will display the options for the command
Assuming you understand network programming:
There is a Ping() function that returns a struct describing the result. I'm pretty sure it is in System.Net and that the struct is PingResult
go to a terminal or command prompt window and type ping [URL or IP address]
replace the text in the brackets with the URL of a Website (eg. Google.com) or the IP address of another computer
Option
Example
Definition
ping -c count
ping -c 10
Specify the number of echo requests to send.
Ping -d
ping -d
Set the SO_DEBUG option.
Ping -f
ping -f
Flood ping. Sends another echo request immediately after receiving a reply to the last one. Only the super-user can use this option.
Ping host
ping 121.4.3.2
Specify the host name (or IP address) of computer to ping
ping -i wait
ping -i 2
Wait time. The number of seconds to wait between each ping
ping -l preload
ping -l 4
Sends "preload" packets one after another.
Ping -n
ping -n
Numeric output, without host to symbolic name lookup.
Ping -p pattern
ping -p ff00
Ping Pattern. The example sends two bytes, one filled with ones, and one with zeros.
Ping -q
ping -q
Quiet output. Only summary lines at startup and completion
ping -r
ping -r
Direct Ping. Send to a host directly, without using routing tables. Returns an error if the host is not on a directly attached network.
Ping -R
Ping -R
Record Route. Turns on route recording for the Echo Request packets, and display the route buffer on returned packets (ignored by many routers).
ping -s PacketSize
ping -s 10
Sets the packet size in number of bytes, which will result in a total packet size of PacketSize plus 8 extra bytes for the ICMP header
ping -v
ping -v
Verbose Output. Lists individual ICMP packets, as well as Echo Responses
An example for this use of using a ping command is to see if a computer is on line within a net work.
Ping Ha is 165 cm.
Pai Ping-ping was born on 1955-05-17.

PING does not originally stand for anything, as a ping is named after the SONAR term for ping. However, some people now refer to PING as Packet InterNet Groper.
To ping someone you go into the person that you which to ping and click the blackberry button, scroll down to "ping contact" and simply click!
Ping command is used to check the network connectivity. You can use ping command from windows shell only, not from DOS OS as DOS does not supports networking. You can use "-t" switch with ping for continuously network checking.Syntax: Ping Example: ping 192.168.1.15 or ping 192.168.1.15 -t or ping -t 192.168.1.15
ping ping
your ping yourself with this addr
