If your car has been injured in an accident, there might be a lot of damage that
can't be seen. Various body tweaks can stop a door from closing properly.
If the door is just rusty and old, it might be sagging. Or the latch might be old and worn.
I'd try to get with a body technician for an evaluation.
headlights and dash lights in 2001 sunfire wont turn on.
usually the locking latch in the door is in the closed position. try holding the handle in the open position and opening the latch manually.

Access in rear door panel, allows you to lock/inlock rear door.
In addition to moving the tensioner pulley, you might have to loosen the alternator to gain a little more slack space.
go to a junk yard and find a sunfire or a Chevy cavalier take the door panel off and unbolt the window mechanism and go home and take your door panel off and replace the mechanism
