By transmitting signals to satellites that locate us
That would depend on what you use it for, for a private party you could use it to locate any place in the world you wanted to visit or track, locate and recover a stolen vehicle you own. A business would use it for asset management, where they would keep track of mobile and stationary assets, track vehicle or freight locations as well as monthly reporting that helps save revenue. Whether it is the stolen vehicle, lost child or hiker or just for tracking and managing assets, GPS has been a very useful technology.
A GPS (Global Positioning System) constellation consists of about 24 satellites circling the Earth, plus a few spares to allow for breakdowns etc. Each satellite is equipped with a high precision atomic clock which emits a signal of high accuracy.
There is a similar Glonass system operated by Russia, and the European Union is commissioning another system named Galileo.
A person with an appropriate receiver, may listen out to these satellites, and provided there are at least four satellites overhead, then the position of the receiver on the Earth's surface may be calculated to a small accuracy. Depending on the receiver apparatus, resolution of a few mm may be obtained, though with hand-held apparatus, a few metres is more usual.
The signal may be degraded by the signal being close to the horizon, or by the receiver being in a canyon such as in a city or mountains. Forest cover will also degrade the accuracy.
The GPS receiver, receives time signals from satellites overhead.
The difference in time, for the signal to reach the receiver on earth, will be different from each satellite and can be measured.
The time differences are applied to a mathematical formula and give the position on earth, in three dimensions (height as well).
Additional information from the satellites will identify each one.
An almanac built into the receiver, will determine where each satellite is in the sky. (or where they should be)
This positional information is used in the calculation and the time difference signals applied to it.
The system is passive. The GPS receiver does not transmit or communicate in any way with the satellites. It listens only.
The atomic clocks onboard each satellite are monitored from earth and kept in synchronization.
=GPS can find your place on earth by sending radio signals to receivers on earth.=
it helps find new places. it also helps us when we're lost. it saves our money by nothing roaming around and burning gas.it is really helpful
not really sometimes it could take to different places
Because it uses a GIS algorithm that calculates the lattitude, longitude and distance of a location on Earth.
It helps you find local thrift stores
To find your way to your destination.
A satellite is an object in space that is orbiting another object. The moon is a natural satellite of the earth. Man-made satellites orbit the earth just outside the earth atmosphere and used for many purposes such as GPS, telecommunications, weather, and spying to name a few. Satellites are in space

The constellation of GPS satellites usually rotates about 20 000km altitude. Each satellite is about the size of a small truck, plus its solar sails for electricity generation. About 24 satellites per constellation, and constellations exist or are under construction for the US, the Soviets, the EU, and for China. Nowadays they contain an atomic clock, and effectively give out accurate time signals which may be decoded on the earth's surface.
chinese compass is important to us today because before when didn't have gps' in our expensive little cars we had nothing but maps which didn't help much direction wiseso the only way
It can help you find a place. It can also prevent people being lost. With help of GPS device, we can get the exact location of where your thing is situated.
There is no GPS location finder that you can buy, but every GPS will be able to tell you where your location is. Also there are applications that you can download for your GPS that can find locations, and this is usually provided on your GPS manufacture's website,
Gps is helpful because it helps you find location and where you are and Gps are known to be in cars.
a GPS
GPS systems use the twenty-seven satellites that orbit the earth. The GPS receiver uses a mathematical equation similar to trilateration. The GPS receiver uses four or more of the satellites that are constantly orbiting the earth and use the information received to find it's location.
Gps navigation helps to find the exact location and helps to keep track of the location of the car.
help i need to find me lg420g phone it has gps enabled, please help
If you are attempting to go geo caching, you may want to consider using your Garmin GPS system. It will help you pinpoint the exact location that you are trying to find.
lasers to find speed and gps to find location/distance
Accurate within 5 yards anywhere on earth
GPS satellites provide location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites.
Global Positioning Systems (GPS) use trigonometry. There are a number of satellites orbiting the earth. The GPS uses the time signals sent by these satellites to establish the distance to the satellites. Trigonometry is then used to find the location of the GPS unit.
