Pros Of The Nile Perch Introduction In Lake Victoria-

*Nile Perch provide more body mass (meat) than the smaller 1-2 inch fish that people used to fish out of Lake Victoria

*Since smaller boats are not large enough to catch Nile Perch in, fishing industries must catch the perch, thus creating a thriving company and providing more job opourtunities for the locals

*Excess fish can be sold to other locations, bringing in money to the companies and people of Kenya and the surrounding area

Cons Of The Nile Perch Introduction In Lake Victoria-

*Nile perch have caused over 200 species of smaller fish in the lake to die out

*Nile Perch eat smaller fish, which feed on the algae in Victoria, and that causes algae build up, and as a result, the oxygen and carbon dyoxidelevels in the water are thrown off

*They were not meant to be in the Lake in the first place. They were introduced.

Where does the Nile River start and end?

The White Nile and Blue Nile merge to form the river Nile near Khartoum, Sudan, at a place known as "al-Mogran". The Nile then flows through Sudan and Egypt before entering the Mediterranean Sea in north-east Egypt. However, the most distant stream and therefore the ultimate source of the Nile is the Luvironza River in Burundi, a tributary of the Kagera River. The Kagera River forms the border between Rwanda and Tanzania, then between Uganda and Tanzania and then flows into Lake Victoria from which the White Nile emerges in Uganda. The links below will give further information. The Nile comes from the meeting of the White Nile and Blue Nile. The White Nile begins in Rwanda and the Blue Nile begins in Ethiopia. Is it true that Nile Perch do not breeding in fish farms?

Sadly current test in Uganda in cooperation with the Chinese government have been almost entirely futile. This is due to the fish utilising the vast depths of lake victory that can not currently be recreated in captivity. From what I have been advise by the Ugandan investment authorities chief fisheries and agricultural specialist it is practically impossible. This is also due to the fact that even if one could force the fish to breed in captivity one would have to have the equivalent of Fort Knox at his dispose, as the Nile Perch feed on other fish mainly Tilapia and catfish. These two fish alone eat 50-60% of the commercial RETAIL price. One would have to raise them in order to feed the Nile perch. My company has started construction of a small fish farm in Uganda. But the feedback we get back from the scientist here in Uganda is that the technology is just not there yet. If it was possible to breed them a single female can live up to 16yr producing over 16million fry. It is every fish exporter dream to maintain a steady supply of Nile perch because the market value continues to rise both locally and internationally to around $6-7 /kg roughly 3-5 medium size fish. Hope it helps.
