∙ 10y agoA proposed amendment must first be passed by either at least two thirds of the House of Representatives and at least two thirds of the Senate or by a national convention called by at least two thirds of the states (this second method has not yet ever been tried). After passage it goes to the states for ratification. As soon as at least three fourths of the states ratify it, it is immediately part of the US Constitution.
