You'll never get the true stats on this one. It varies from hospital to hospital. One thing to keep in mind, when asked for money from a hospital to buy even a second-hand piece of equipment (they do this in British Columbia) ALWAYS ask what the Administration fees are first. It should be no more than 10%!!! This includes ANYTHING when you are asked for a donation. Most of the staff don't even know how to answer this question. Example: If you gave $100 towards Medical Equipment and Administration took 25 - 40% of that ... don't give the money! We all know that there is not enough of anything to handle the population of the U.S. and Canada (not to mention many other countries.) In Canada our nurses are Union and paid a good wage. However, they keep threatening to go to the U.S. to be paid more. I say "take a bulldozer and help them across the line" and bring in nurses from other countries. Everyone should expect fair wages, but most of the time it's greed. The doctors can pull this off as well and complain there aren't enough doctors to cover the amount of patients, but they are partly to blame for this and have a problem with doctors from other countries coming into Canada. "The Old Boys Club!" When our Liberal government took over the first thing Gordon Campbell did was hit Administration and it was mind boggling what some of these people were paid. How anyone could look at themselves in the mirror every morning knowing their overly high wages were the cause of some of the problems with poor health care is beyond me. The Hippocratic Oath in Canada no longer exists and it is now covered under the "Medical Code of Ethics." If it was good for thousands of years why change it? I asked several doctors and their excuse was "it doesn't cover the modern day problems." Excuse me! The bottom line is, that anyone working in the Health Care System should cop the attitude of helping those (of all races, rich or poor) with the good health care they gave an oath to give their patients. It appears the once high honor of doctors and nurses helping patients in need and not worrying whether they could pay or not has gone right out the window. Canada is very short of medical equipment and MRIs are sitting there useless all night long and the doctors tell us they can't get the manpower (not true) and the government tell us they can't afford to keep the MRI machines going 24/7. Why not? Too much money going in all the wrong places.
