You should invest your time learning the language that you will have the most likelihood of speaking. If you stay in the US, Spanish will no doubt prove more useful. If you intend to work in Northwest and West Central Africa, then French would be the better of the two. Once you know two languages, the third and subsequent languages become marginally easier to learn. You're intelligent enough to be a doctor, you might consider learning them both!
French seems to be the one preferred by employers to Spanish, but really it is just a question of which one you believe you will do best in.

It is certainly possible to get a grade B in GCSE Spanish after only learning it for 1 year. It may take work but it can definitely be done.
