A TV, a washing machine, an iPod etc. are all forms of computers, but they have only a small range of things that they can do, and are designed specifically to do them. A PC or a Mac and other types of computers, can do a huge amount of things. They can be used by different people for completely different kinds of jobs. They are general purpose computers.

∙ 6y agoA special purpose computer is a computer specifically designed to do one thing, be it calculate the position of the moon or play Chess. This type of computer can only do one thing, although it will do that one thing very quickly and very accurately.
A general purpose computer can be programmed to do a much wider variety of things (the same things a specialized computer, if programmed to) although it will be slower than a specialized computer designed for the same task.

Can do what ever they want without other authorizing. A dedicated computer and be a few things. Most computers go into 2 catigorys, A server or a PC. A server is used to manage access and data over multipul computers called a domain. A dedicated computer is one that is set to use only on purpose, or on place or dedicated to only that server, ect...
a dedicated computer would be something like a server. for example if you have a file server, its purpose is to store and share files across the network. a general purpose computer would be something like your personal computer. Its not designed to do any one thing. It can do a little bit of everything
