The Ambient Temperature Sensor is located behind the grill and mounted to the radiator support with a "push in" connector. Remove the screws that attach the upper portion of the grill and pull the grill away from the vehicle enough to access the sensor.

It is located behind the alternator just above the thermostat. You will need to take the alternator off to be able to reach and change the sensor.

Hey Great Questions, My 2002 envoy is doing the same thing right now. About a week ago it started... Hope u find out an aswer, so I can read it THANKS The problem you described is with the ambient temperature sensor, located behind the grill. It is a small grey or black sensor, and it is a dealer only item. To replace it you will need to open your hood and remove the two screws located above the grill, then you can either pull the grill toward you and unplug the sensor or if you need more space you can pull up on the grill and take it out completely. Don't forget to unplug your head light washers.
