When you have anorexia, your goal is to keep off weight or keep losing it regardless of how skinny you become. In hopes of losing weight you will lose muscle mass and fat. So if an individual suffers from bulimia, they will have acidic erosion of their esophagus.

I deal with anorexia and these are what I feel: 1. HUNGER! It's constantly there but sometimes after a while you don't even notice you're hungry. 2. You can feel weak due to the lack of nutrition in your body. 3. Even after recovering, anorexia can leave you permanently weaker than you should be. 4. You get very, very, VERY skinny and can see almost all your bones. That's all I really know.

Anorexia nervosa is a serious and potentially deadly medical condition. By some estimates, it leads to death in 10% of cases. Experienced treatment programs have a good success rate in restoring normal weight, but relapse is common. Women who develop this eating disorder at an early age have a better chance of complete recovery. However, most people with anorexia will continue to prefer a lower body weight and be preoccupied with food and calories to some extent. Weight management may be difficult, and long-term treatment may be necessary to help maintain a healthy body weight. Complications can be severe. A hospital stay may be needed. Complications may include: * Severe dehydration, possibly leading to shock * Electrolyte imbalance (such as potassium insufficiency) * Cardiac arrhythmias * Severe malnutrition * Thyroid gland deficiencies which can lead to cold intolerance and constipation * Appearance of fine baby-like body hair (lanugo) * Bloating or edema * Decrease in white blood cells which leads to increased susceptibility to infection * Osteoporosis * Tooth erosion and decay * Seizures related to fluid shifts due to excessive diarrhea or vomiting

Food is majorly important, obviously, so when someone doesn't eat for a period of time, such as anorexics, many effects take place in many parts of the body, such as:

Massive weight loss, 30% even!

Dry skin due to lack of nutrients needed to keep the skin healthy

Irregular or even loss of the menstrual period.

Bone conditions such as osteoporosis. Bone loss.

Anorexia can even cause death.

Anorexia can have an awful lot of side effects, both trivial and lethal. For example, you could get brittle hair or brittle nails, causing hair to fall out, having bad circulation so parts of your body might go numb at random intervals, you might have fainting spells, or you might get easily cold; blue finger nails are not uncommon.

Lack of nutrition could cause osteoporosis and anemia, also insomnia.

The longer you have the illness, the more damaging the side effects will be, in extreme cases, comas are possible and so is pneumonia if you struggle to stay warm. That's why it's always really important to get help sooner rather than later.
