Vascular can mean two separate things. It can relate to the vessels of the body that carries blood and lymph such as the the arteries and the veins.

It can also refer to plant tissues that are highly specialized in carrying water, dissolved nutrients and food from one part of a plant to another. Plants that have xylem and phloem are vascular like ferns and seed bearing plants. Bryophytes, or mosses, do not have these abilities.

What is vascular disease and how is it treated?

Vascular disease encompasses a range of conditions affecting blood vessels, including arteries, veins, and capillaries. It often involves issues like narrowing, blockages, or weakness within these vessels, disrupting blood flow to organs and tissues. Common vascular diseases include peripheral artery disease (PAD), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and aneurysms. Treatment varies based on the specific condition and its severity but typically involves lifestyle changes, medications, and sometimes surgical interventions. Lifestyle modifications include adopting a healthy diet, regular exercise, quitting smoking, and managing conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Medications such as blood thinners, cholesterol-lowering drugs, and blood pressure medications help manage symptoms and lower the risk of complications. In severe cases or when conservative treatments fail, surgical options like angioplasty, stent placement, bypass surgery, or vascular repair may be necessary to restore proper blood flow. Also, if anyone is looking to gain in-depth knowledge in this field and looking some source to learn, should consider opting this online course - Surgery for UnderGrads by Dr Sriram Bhat M on Diginerve. This course provides detailed explanations and in-depth understanding through its amazing video lectures, well–designed notes, and self-assessment questions. Apart from this, theoretical aspects with practical points for operative surgeries are given along with important questions. Overall, I found this course extremely helpful, and it aids in laying a strong foundation in this subject. Every student in this field should go for this course.
