Hormonal Birth Control (such as the pill) does not affect the accuracy of blood or urine pregnancy tests. Pregnancy tests measure a hormone (hCG) only present in pregnancy.

To ensure the best results: * Take the test in the morning, if possible, because your hCG (pregnancy hormone) levels are at it's highest * Don't drink a bunch of fluids before taking the test because it will dilute your urine and can affect the results * Take the test no more than 1 day before expected period. Although some test say that you can see results up to 5 days before your missed period, the percentage of accuracy is very low. * urinate for as long as possible on the foam-like strip * Check the results in the window frame of time suggested by the instructions of the pregnancy test

While it depends upon the sensitivity of the specific test, most home urine pregnancy tests (sensitive to 25 mIU) will turn positive about 13-16 days after conception. If you were not on oral contraceptives, this would mean about the time of the first missed menses. When you are on oral contraceptives, ovulation could have occurred at more irregular times so that all you can say is if the pregnancy test is negative, you are either not pregnant or are less than about 14 days pregnant from ovulation.

No. Nuva Ring, the birth control pill, Depo Provera, Implanon, the contraceptive patch, and the Mirena IUD can not cause a false positive or false negative pregnancy test. There is no hCG in Nuva Ring, and that's the hormone that blood and urine pregnancy test detects. It doesn't matter if you take the test with Nuva Ring in or out; it will be equally reliable.
Yes, the hormones in the NuvaRing will not interfere with the test. The test detects HCG, which is not found in the Nuvaring. And the hormones in the Nuvaring would not mask any HCG in your urine.

Your IUD does not affect pregnancy testing. A pregnancy test measures the presence of a hormone called hCG in your urine. Some IUDs [eg the Mirena coil] release hormones, but these will not affect your hCG levels and so have no effect on pregnancy tests.

If you have an IUD and get a positive pregnancy test result it is very important that you see your doctor immediately. This is because if you get pregnant with an IUD in-situ you have an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy (where the embryo implants in the Fallopian tubes instead of the uterus). Complications of ectopic pregnancy can be fatal, so your doctor will want to do an urgent ultrasound scan to ensure that you do have one. This is very rare - the risk of pregnancy with an IUD is very low (less than 1 in 1000), and the risk of ectopic pregnancy is lower still, but it is still important to have this checked by a doctor.

If the test is taken at the correct time and correctly then no the patch will have no effect on the reading. (Of course if it is taken early then the hormone will not be strong enough yet to register on the test.) A home pregnancy test measures a hormone that is ONLY produced by the placenta. That hormone is not present in your body in a registerable amount unless you are pregnant, or have recently been pregnant. False negative can happen if the test is taken too early, but a falst positive very very very rarely to never happens unless a test is very faulty. If the hormone is present you ARE pregnant (or have recently miscarried), no matter how light the line is.

The birth control pill does not affect the outcome of a home or in-office pregnancy test. Pregnancy tests look a for a hormone called HCG-human chorionic gonadotropin. The hormone that a pregnancy test detects is one that you only make if you are pregnant.
A woman ovulates (sends out eggs for fertilization with male sperm) around 14-18 days AFTER the 1st day of her period. The first day of your period is day 1. On day 14-18 your body may ovulate. If you pay attention to your body you can tell that it is ovulating. (vaginal area has more fluid). Since you did not say when you had sex I cannot tell you if you have a good chance or not BUT you can start counting from the 1st day of your period and if day 14-18 were the days you had sex you have a pretty good chance of being pregnant if you are young and healthy.

No. The hormones detected by a pregnancy test is for a growth hormone the embryo produces to help maintain the pregnancy. The Depo Provera shot is a different type of hormone that has nothing to do with any hormones detected by a pregnancy test.

A positive pregnancy test means you're pregnant, even if you are on or recently stopped Depo Provera.

A negative pregnancy test means you're not pregnant, or that you took the test too early. Repeat the test in a week or two. If that one is also negative, you're not pregnant.

Since women often have no period when they're on Depo Provera and after they stop the shot, many come to believe they must be pregnant. Symptoms ranging from breast tenderness and cramping (which can mean ovulation after stopping depo provera) to headaches, gas, and yeast infection become "proof" to women that they must be pregnant. Take one pregnancy test is you really think you might be pregnant. Take another two weeks later. Follow the instructions that come with the test. If you're pregnant, that second test will come up positive. Don't waste your money taking a dozen pregnancy tests.
