All gas fireplaces have to have a shut-off valve within 10' and that will turn so the key or the handle is parallel to leave gas on and perpendicular to turn gas off. The valve inside the fireplace turns but not indiscriminately. The inner valve will turn to the pilot setting and depress to light the pilot. Once the pilot os stable the knob will un-depress and turn to the On position. For a manual valve this will turn on the gas flow to the main burners. If using a switch or remote turning the valve to On leaves the fireplace valve in a Ready position so the switch or remote will turn on the gas.
Fireplaces don't necessarily conserve energy. In fact, many fireplaces can actually be wasteful energy appliances if not installed, used, and maintained correctly. For gas fireplace owners, I would certainly suggest adding a fireplace blower or fan kit. A blower kit will pull cool air from the lower louver and force air up and around your firebox. The air is heated as it travels around your firebox or insert and is eventually expelled out of the top louver. Without a blower kit installed, your gas fireplace is nothing more than something pretty to look at. Sure, you get some residual radiant heat, but it's nothing close to what's need to heat an entire room. Adding a simple blower kit to a gas fireplace can save you hundreds of dollars a year in home heating costs.
A guess that is close! HAHA LOL
You close your eyes because you could have gotten scared.

Some of the risks of an indoor fireplace include chimney fires, carbon monoxide poisoning, embers escaping the fireplace, and children possibly getting too close.
Probably, but you'll need to get a flashlight and look up the chimney to be positive.
The function that a fireplace fan serves is to distribute heat throughout the room that the fireplace is in. A fireplace fan is ideal because it's probably not safe to sit too close to a fireplace.
the indoor malls usully close first because of weather or daylight issues

Yes- but open before use.
Then you have a shortage of combustion air, and it is drawing air down the unused fireplace flue. Close the damper of the unused fireplace, and check for exhaust fans that may be drawing air out of the house.
Radiator? Plug? turn clockwise Petcock? Turn counterclockwise to close
Yes, there are automatic fireplace flue dampers available for sale on the internet. Check out www.fluesentinel.com and www.actionair.co.uk or fireplace showrooms near you for more detailed information.
The purpose of the fireplace damper is to keep the outside elements, outside. The damper is opened only when there is a fire in the fireplace.
