Every 100 pounds of wood contains approximately 44 pounds of carbon. When burned, this carbon combines with oxygen (some in the wood and some from the air) to produce about 163 pounds carbon dioxide.

1 ha contains 200-500 tonnes of Biomass about 50% of which is carbon. Burning probably releases 2/3 of carbon as CO2. Burning around 40,000ha would therefore release 0.5Mt as CO2. 1 mt= 10*6tonnes

The amount of carbon dioxide given off when burning paper varies with the amount of paper being incinerated, and will also depend to a lesser extent on the type of paper. Paper is usually made primarily of wood pulp, which is high in cellulose, but the lignin content can vary broadly. We can also see cloth fibers (cotton and others) and various materials added (like chalk or clay) to improve the surface of the paper for writing. Given the variables regarding the numbers of chemical compounds in it, it is difficult to say how much CO2 will be given off when burning a given amount of paper.

How much Co2 do the trees in the Amazon rainforest make a year?

Amazon rainforest trees don't make carbon dioxide, they take it in. The Amazon rainforest absorbs 1.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere every year.

How much co2 does a tree absorb per year?

Almost half the mass of a tree is carbon, taken from the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide. A tree only takes in carbon when it is growing, and the amount that a tree grows in a year varies from tree to tree. Old trees are bigger and grow more than young trees in a year, usually.

How much Co2 does running a TV produce?

A flat panel television does not produce any carbon dioxide during normal operation. The carbon footprint of operating an LCD TV is estimated at 215 kg per year on average.

In what season would carbon dioxide levels be high?

In the northern winter since plants are dormant and not taking carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The Northern Hemisphere has much more land for vegetation to grow on compared to the Southern Hemisphere. Carbon dioxide (CO2) builds up slowly during the northern winter, when trees and plants are dormant. It generally reaches its highest level in May of every year.

What percentage of carbon dioxide is caused by car fumes?

AnswerYes, they do. When a hydrocarbon (e.g: gasoline) is burned, it releases water, carbon dioxide, and energy. For each litre of petrol used, the CO2 produced from the exhaust is about 2.5 kg. A typical annual use of 1200 litres of petrol produces about 3 tons of CO2.Cars produce almost 1% of all CO2. Nature, through rotting vegetation, produces 95%. However, vegetation absorbs an equal mass of CO2 out of the atmosphere while growing. Cars do not do that.Yes, cars do produce carbon Di-oxide.. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) originally viewed carbon dioxide as a product of "perfect" combustion, but now views CO2 as a pollution concern. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that traps the earth's heat and contributes to Climate Change.

What gas is produced when coal is burned?

Carbon dioxide (CO2)!It produces sulfuric oxides. (This was written by a 12 year old.)

Why is biomass like fossil fuels?

They are both burned to release energy. They both emit carbon dioxide when burnt. However fossil fuel releases 300-million-year-old carbon dioxide, so it adds to global warming. Biomass releases carbon dioxide that was removed from the atmosphere when the plants grew, so it is part of the carbon cycle, NOT contributing to global warming.

How much carbon dioxide does a bus emit?

A small bus can emit 270 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre. (Australian figures). This might be the equivalent of about 21 tonnes of Carbon dioxide (CO2) a year for a bus driving 60,000 km (36,000 miles).

How does the process of photosynthesis affect carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere during a typical year?

Photosynthesis uses carbon dioxide as a raw material where carbon dioxide is fixed into organic molecules. This process lowers the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The seasonal fluctuation of carbon dioxide levels during a year may be caused by increased photosynthesis during spring and summer.

How much carbon dioxide is the US releasing into the atmosphere every year?

According to Wikipedia's List of countries by carbon dioxide emissions the US emits 5,838,381,000 metric tonnes annually, which is 19.91% of the global total (Figures from 2007).

What did Charles David Keeling discover by measuring carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?

Charles David Keeling discovered that: - the concentration of carbon dioxide in atmosphere has an important seasonal variation - after 1960 he discovered that the concentration of carbon dioxide in atmosphere increase year after year, caused very probable by anthropogenic activities

How much automotive exhaust is produced by cars each year?

Vehicle exhaust is mostly carbon dioxide, with a little water, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides. This answer deals with the carbon dioxide content only.Sixteen percent (16%) of human carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions comes from road transport (cars, trucks and buses). Cars are responsible for about half of this (8%).Humans are responsible for around 35 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.Car emissions, 8% of that total, is around 2.8 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide (2,800,000,000).

How much CO2 is lost to space every year?

Very little. Carbon dioxide is ingested by plants, which require it. When we eat the plants, some of the carbon is exhaled as CO2. The Earth is essentially a closed system; the carbon that is here on Earth will remain here on Earth. Carbon dioxide is a natural part of our atmosphere, and is present in only trace amounts.

Does trees absorb carbon monoxide?

Carbon Monoxide: is a colorless, odorless, tastless gas that when inhaled is toxic to humans. Carbon Monoxide: is a byproduct of a rich mixture fire, Burning wood, Gas fires, etc. Your answer is No! Trees use Carbon Dioxide which is what you release when you exhale. So-Live long.
