Yes methadone will greatly reduce withdrawal symptoms. However methadone is an opiate. So going off of it will also cause withdrawal symptoms. The advantage of methadone is that it is long lasting, lacks the same initial rush of heroin. This makes addictions more manageable. It also reduces the risk of overdose.

No clue, try it. If it doesn't, you'll still feel awsome.

All opiates are interchangeable. Taking any opiate agonist like oxycodone will stop withdrawals. The question I have is: are you withdrawing voluntarily or involuntarily?

Here are two things you should know:

Taking another opiate will put you right back where you started. When you stop, you will have to go through withdrawals again.

That said, it is easier to detox from shorter-acting opiates than from longer acting opiates. It is easier because the withdrawals do not last as long with the shorter-acting opiates. If you want to detox, you would be better off switching to a short-acting opiate like hydrocodone for a couple of weeks, then detoxing. With methadone, withdrawals can last for weeks. With hydrocodone, or another short-acting opiate, you're only facing four or five days.

Everyone is different. Really it can be done in a few days, but the real purpose of methadone is "Maintenance" or the change of your lifestyle. If you are trying to get off oxycodone, your best bet is to seek therapy while taking methadone, and then slowly tapering off of it. It is the psychological aspect of addiction that is what makes you "relapse" so it is important to treat that aspect as well. But I took 15 mg's of methadone for 4 days, then 5 mg's for 2 days and my withdrawal symptoms were basically gone from oxycodone. But I relapsed 2 months later. I am clean 4 years thanks to methadone "Maintenance".

Can alcohol help get opiates out of your system?

Alcohol cannot accelerate the disassociation of the methadone from the receptors in your brain (which is the withdrawal. If you take methadone with Alcohol it can lead to the "feeling of withdrawal, but what you are feeling is symptoms of overdose, which feel similar. Both can depress the respiratory system and that is why it is so dangerous to take together, as is benzos and methadone. It can kill you.

Your girlfriend is on 100 milligrams of methadone 20 mil of Prozac and 5 of xanax 3 times a day she is always drowsy and she also takes extra xanax when she gets a hold of them how can you help her?

Take the xanax away... I take it she is coming off heroin or an opiate since she is on methadone. When you take a benzo with methadone it creates a heroin like effect, and can cause black outs. I personally would not recommend methadone, Suboxone is the better option or Subutex. But be aware that Subutex and Suboxone will give you INSTANt withdraw symptoms,a hardhitting cold turkey, if your not completely out of the Methadone.

Will Vicodin help methadone withdrawal?

yeah it more that likely will calm them down a little but withdrawals are hard to deal with. I've gone through withdrawals from oxcycodone hcl 30 and mg methadone helped me with those withdrawals a lot and with my pain and it lasted twice as long as Oxycontin but the only thing is that methadone really messes with your head in the long run

How can I get over the physical withdrawals of heroin?

The only way to get rid of the physical withdrawal symptoms (besides taking more heroin) is to take methadone or Suboxone. These drugs are opiates themselves, just like heroin, but they won't get you high. They will feed your physical dependency on opiates, so you can quit getting high without suffering painful withdrawal symptoms. Suboxone (buprenorphine) is for mild to moderate opiate addiction, and methadone is for severe opiate addiction. If you are injecting, say, more than 10 grams of heroin a day, you may have to take methadone, as Suboxone may not be strong enough for you. If you are smoking or snorting the heroin, Suboxone will probably be sufficient. You will have to see a doctor to have one of these drugs prescribed to you. Not all doctors are permitted to prescribe Suboxone (or methadone), and only a handful of pharmacies are permitted to dispense it. I have included a link to a Buprenorphine Treatment Center Locator, which can help you find doctors in your area who are authorized to prescribe Suboxone. If it turns out you need methadone instead, I'm sure they can help you with that, too.
