The transmitter circuit produces the radiation, which exits the phone primarily through the antenna. Due to some major concerns about constant exposure to the radiation from mobile phones -- which can and does approach two watts under some conditions -- many newer phones have the antenna at the bottom of the phone, rather than above the earpiece as in older phones.

Headphones emit some amount of electromagnetic radiation in the form of radio waves. This is a non-ionizing radiation which is typically safe. It causes some heating effect, but not enough to cause any type of long-term damage to tissues.

Yes, but the radiation is much less powerful than from nuclear power plants or similar sources of radiation. No scientists have ever seen any sickness or cancer caused by the radiation from a mobile phone, but they are still checking to make sure they are safe.

The type of radiation produced by cellular phones is electromagnetic RF microwave radiation, not nuclear radiation. They produce it in their transmitter circuits needed to send signals to connect with the cell tower, dial numbers, send your voice, send your text messages, etc. If a cellular phone did not produce this RF microwave radiation, it could not do any of these things you use it for and would thus be useless. If the frequency of the RF radiation used was reduced below the microwave band then the they could not use the tiny portable antennas and each cellular phone would need an antenna several feet long (making it very difficult to fit in a pocket or purse).

Cell phones are electromagnetic devices. This is because they use electromagnetic radiation to emit radio-frequency energy when interacting other electronic devices.

Cellular phones emit electromagnetic (EM) radiation. The emitted radiation is in the microwave band of frequencies.

Since a cell phone uses radio waves to communicate, it will both receive and transmit radio waves.
