It can. Grapefruits and grapefruit juice has been known to alter the metabolism of some medications. Hence: if you are taking blood pressure medicine and ingest grapefruit, the medication may cause some side effects, which can include alerting blood pressure. It is actually like an "enhancer". It can make it seem like you took 5x or more the dose that you originally took. Unfortunately, this can lead to dangerous side affects. Not all people will be affected, as it ineracts with a specific enzyme in your intestines. Talk to your doctor before ingesting grapefruit when on medications.

Certain chemicals in specific foods are metabolized in the liver using a particular chemical pathway.

Certain drugs also metabolize on specific liver pathways.

Thus if a particular pathway is loaded with 2 things to metabolize at once, a food and a drug, the rate of metabolism of the drug will slow.

This means that the normal dosage profile for the drug (that makes it good for you) is changed and the effects of the drug are no longer what the doctor expects.

When this interaction of a drug with a food is likely and known, you will be told to avoid that food while taking the drug.

Grapefruit juice contains one of these specific pathway chemicals and interferes with a number of drugs.

Can you eat Grapefruit whall taking High Blood pressure MEd?

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice interact with a number of medications, including some that are used in treating high blood pressure. The main problem is that chemicals in grapefruit juice cause some medications to be absorbed better than usual by your body, resulting in what is effectively an overdose. This can cause a number of unpleasant and occasionally dangerous symptoms. Also, you should be aware that grapefruit juice chemicals persist in the body for up to 72 hours. You should discuss grapefruit juice interaction possibilities with your doctor, since certain medications are more susceptible than others.
