Best Answer

No. The ingredient label (from a box with the use-by date 19 Jul 2011) shows: Whole grain oats, modified corn starch, sugar, salt, tripotassium phosphate, WHEAT STARCH, and vitamin E.

Wheat starch is made from wheat.

Many name brands are NOT gluten free, so you should be careful. There are several brands that are, however:

  • EnviroKidz Amazon Flakes
  • Nature's Path Corn Flakes
  • Nature's Path Honey'd Corn Flakes
  • Erewhon Corn Flakes

If nothing else, Corn Chex cereal is clearly labeled "gluten free."

Cheerios are made from whole-grain corn and oats. In theory, those grains do not contain either of the proteins that combine to form gluten in the presence of water (or milk). The label on the box says, "May contain wheat ingredients", but that may just be a lawyer's way of saying that they may have been baked in the same facility that makes Wheaties or Chex.

Yes it does. The only gluten free cereals would be rice chex, corn chex and honey nut chex. There are specialty cereals that are good too, like Bakery on Main street.

No it is not. Cheerios contains wheat starch which is a gluten. Oats can be tolerated by some people with Celiacs disease but usually in the organic steel cut form.Just to clarify: There is no form of wheat or wheat starch listed as an ingredient of Cheerios. Cheerios are made from whole-grain corn and oats. In theory, those grains do not contain either of the proteins that combine to form gluten in the presence of water (or milk). The label on the Cheerios box says, "May contain wheat ingredients", but that may just be a lawyer's way of saying that they may have been baked in the same facility that makes Wheaties or Chex.

No variation of Cheetos have gluten, except for the Giant Puffs. Alrhough, a lot of chips are processed in plants that also process products that contain gluten. So better to be safe then to be sorry. Need to watch out for cross contamination.
