Yes. It opened in 1926. It was owned by Esther Silverman up until its closing in approximately 1980. They served fresh fruit drinks (they squeezed the Orange Juice right in front of you) and served Hot Dogs, with the "hottest chili in town".

It was located at 267 East Flagler Street in downtown Miami, right next to the Town theater.

They served actual juices made in front of your eyes from fresh veggies and fruits. My personal favorite was the coconut juice. I will never forget this place, on the wall they had "America will be 200 years old in 1976". (see full comment at http://cinematreasures.org/theater/7900/).

It had a slight role in the Kennedy assassination (See http://www.jfkmurdersolved.com/TOSHTRANS1.htm).

Legend has it that during World War Two Germans who had sneaked ashore from a U-boat ate there shortly before their capture (they were found with menus).. Added Comment by JohnJenrette: Esther Silverman was my grandmother. I used to work at Sloppy Joe's when I was a small boy. I still can taste the hot dogs! Sadly Esther passed away in 2008 at the age of 102. She was never sick a day of her life and I certainly attribute that to the made-on-the-spot fruit and vegatable juices we served.

Rollin' and Restin'?

Rolling out to see grandma, it's a 7 hour road trip and you have worked all day; sleep will be a requirement somewhere along the way. After about 3 hours into the drive you decide to pull into the local rest area to take a "cat nap". A few things that you need to remember while car sleeping in the rest area; never leave your car doors unlocked, always park in an area with good lighting, have your cell phone available, and if at all possible carry a travel size can of mace. Some rest areas have a guard on duty. If the rest area you decide to stop at does have a guard, find him/her and let them know that you need to take a small nap because you have been traveling. The guard will be able to watch out for you and your vehicle while you rest. Though traveling long trips alone is not recommended, sometimes they are a must. If you remember to do these few steps you will make your car sleeping stop a little more safe.
