No, but it supports them. The Wii has a certain amount of built-in memory, and it's plenty to hold your save games. It can use your GameCube memory and normal camera SD memory cards as well, should you run out of space or would just like to import from elsewhere.

SD Card's are optional as they help store some data the Wii will not be able too like pictures in Pokemon Rumble and so on.
