Timing chain. Almost all of the GM v-6 products have a timing chain. The DOHC 3.4 and some of the caddi motors are the only exception. I have never seen a 60* v-6 GM timing chain fail. But that doesnt mean you shouldn't replace them every 200k miles...

Recomended milage? uhm, usually when they break. You should have either the 3100/3400 motor, or a 3800. Both of which are non-interference motors. Unless you are getting a check engine light for a cam-shaft position sensor, keep driving it till she dies.

your timing marks are incorrect the timing is off. You'll need to reinstall the timing chian with the right timing marks ask a professional for assistance.
