yes...the 2nd generation xterra's have a chain...the timing 'belt' is highly suggested to be changed along w/ a few gaskets and the water pump @105K...experts agree, anything over the 105 mark is considered 'borrowed time', since the extent of possible damage with a broken belt can add up to a full long-block engine replacement...as well as the water-pump!...kindest regards....
I still think the best car ever made...was the Porshe 356...however, for those who can't spend quite so much...the 1964 vw beetle or 67 karmann ghia are the best cars around, interms of reliability, simplicity and style...the beetle is the only car that has never has a flat surface...every piece of metal is curved or rounded...
