No, there is not. However most people with latex Allergies have other allergies as well, and can cross react. Spandex is a man made fiber, where as latex is a natural rubber substance. Latex is stronger and more elastic and of course since it is natural is easier to come by. I have heard some people with a latex allergy state they can only wear up to a certain percentage of spandex in their clothing. My theroy is better be safe than sorry

Nope, most of them don't.

Spandex, or lycra, is a synthetic fabric with a polymer base, like nylon or polyester. Unlike many other synthetic fabrics, spandex is a polyurethane, and it is this fact that is responsible for the fabric's peculiarly elastic qualities.

- if the spandex causes skin irritation , its because of LATEX. so u will know if it contains latex.

- if its comfortable then it doesn't contain.
Either yes or no.

Can you be allergic to spandex?

yes! some people are only allergic to rubber (elastic, latex, spandex) which has been bleached or treated with rubber accelerators. Other people are allergic to latex, spandex, tires, pencil erasers, tennis balls, condoms, hairbrushes. They put rubber everywhere! Take it from me, I have a TRUE latex allergy. with a true latex allergy, an exposure leads to at least three weeks of contact dermatitis. For someone with this allergy, that includes spandex in jeans (which is bad because it is treated with lots of the rubber accelerator which is sometimes the real allergy)

What are the suits the spandex suits called?

The suits are made of spandex material, the most popular is Lycra spandex suit. Spandex is a synthetic fiber known for its exceptional elasticity. It is strong, but less durable than natural Latex, its major non-synthetic competitor. It is a polyurethane-polyurea copolymer that was co-invented in 1959 by chemists C. L. Sand Quist and Joseph Shivers at DuPont's Benger Laboratory in Waynesboro, Virginia. When first introduced, it revolutionized many areas of the clothing industry. The name "spandex" is an anagram of the word "expands". It is the preferred name in North America; in many European countries it is referred to as "elastane", and is known in Britain mainly as LYCRA. Brand names for spandex include LYCRA (made by INVISTA, previously a part of DuPont), ELASPAN (also IN Vista's), Creora (Hyosung), ROICA and Dorlastan (Asahi Kasei), Linel (Fillattice), and ESPA (Toyobo).
