I dont think so!!!
Actually, yes. A number of varieties are grown on the islands, especially reds and golds, not so much russets. There are a few varieties that are specific to hawaii, namely Pele and Waimea. These are hybrids developed by the University of Hawaii agriculture program. They are fungus and blight resistant and more suitable to the humid climate of the state.
Aloha
Most of California won't support coconut palms at all. The southern reaches of the state may sustain the coconut palm trees, but those trees typically don't yield coconuts.
In general, no, California does not grow coconuts.

Yes.
No, coconuts do not grow underground. They grow on palm trees, high up off the ground.
There are two uses of a coconut 1. Coconuts are for eating 2. You can use a coconut to plant in a mixture of soil and sand and grow a coconut tree and have lots of coconuts. Where I live, in Britain, it is too cold to grow coconuts. Coconuts grow in hot, tropical climates like the Caribbean, and they can grow in climates like the Meditteranean or even slightly north of the Meditteranean, but they will need some care to grow. In Britain, where I live coconuts will be extremely hard to grow, so where I live they only have one use which is eating. Coconuts can even survive 38 degrees Celsius, but the temperature they're made for is around 21-28 degrees Celsius.
Coconuts grow next to the shore of the ocean. On the fifth day after you planted the coconut, the tree should be fully grown.
yes they do (2) But not all palm trees produce coconuts. Coconuts grow on coconut palms; dates grow on date palms; there are many other varieties of palm whose fruit are not edible for humans.
