If you have WiFi, which you have logged into (via Settings>WiFi), then you don't have to pay. But if you don't have WiFi/Broadband and are Surfing the internet using a 3G signal then it will charge you. It's often very expensive to simply download a few emails using a 3G signal ... check with your phone company about the prices.

∙ 11y agoAll iPads come with wifi built in. If you already have access to wireless Internet you use with a computer or laptop then you will not be charged extra to use it with a iPad.
However for little extra you can buy an iPad with built in 3G connectivity. This is like including mobile phone component inside the iPad instead of making call it will allow you to access the Internet through mobile phone masts. The phone companies who operate mobile phone masts will charge you depending on how much data you use either by giving you an allowance of data per month for a monthly fee or on a pay as you go situation. iPads with 3G still have wifi built and will not use up your data allowance when connected to a chosen WIFi spot.
