No. A British Citizen is eligible for the Visa Waver Program (VWP). The appropreate form is generally given for you to fill out on the plane... or it can be filled out at the port of entry (Usually your destination airport). You will also fill out a customs declaration at the same time. Being on the VWP allows you to stay in the US for up to 90 days, but you cannot obtain employment in the US while you are in this status.
