Yes, and you shouldn't even be asking this question unless the child is not yours. If the child is proven not to be yours you don't have to pay child support, but you will have to fork out the money to get the gene test done and I believe it can range anywhere from $1200/$1500. It takes two to have a child! It's tough raising a child and tally it up! Even when your baby was born it cost plenty, and the price on raising children just keeps going up. A woman can't do it alone on the wages she usually makes. You are responsible as well for your child(ren) and never forget that. Now, in fairness to you, if you had custody of your child, then I believe your wife should help out to support this child. Also, if the wife has an excellent career position in a corporation and makes more than the husband she should pay for the bulk of child support, but the father of the child should put what he can afford towards his own child. Custody has nothing to do with it. If she refuses (by court) to let you see your child and you are thinking "why should I pay when I can't even see my son/daughter" then look at yourself as the man you should be. Your child is going to grow up and wonder who his/her father is. Be a man! You could still have a relationship in later years with your son or daughter. What do you want them to think of you as ... a responsible man or a loafer? I worked up North in Canada, and many men fled the coop working in far off construction camps to get away from child support. I have absolutately no sympathy for men such as this. I "red tagged" them, because the RCMP would come looking for them anyway. I would give a "red list" of the men they were looking for and never once regretted it. These men made big bucks, and I saw one man lose a weeks wages of $5700 on a roll of dice while his wife and kids back home struggled in every day life. Some of the men confronted me in my office and I nailed their hides to the wall. Some moaned and groaned while others thought about it and before I knew it they were cashing their checks and giving me the money to send off to their kids. They took an interest and even asked what I thought was fair if they had anywhere from 1 - 4 kids. Whatever I asked of them (and I was fair to the men) they paid and I shipped the money off to their wives. The wives were more than thankful and let me know it. A man is not a man if their don't face their responsibilites. I hope you are one of the ones that feels they should contribute to their child's welfare. After all, this child is innocent and didn't ask to be born into this world. Marcy

Depends on the situation and the country. I suggest you talk to a lawyer instead of the internet.

The question of child support arises when one or both parents are absent from the child's home. Therefore, if you and your wife are the child's parents, no child support should be due from either of you.

Child support is dependent upon the age of the child, not the employment of the child. Also, technically, it is not the child who gets child support, it is the child's custodial parent or guardian who gets child support to assist in supporting the child.

If a person fails to pay court-ordered child support, that person can be punished. Said punishment may include prison. If a person is out of work through no fault of his own, he may be able to go to court to have the child support arrangement modified, but if he quit work in order to have his new wife provide for him the court is likely to take a pretty dim view of his refusal to provide for his child and not modify the agreement (under the assumption that he could work and therefore pay child support if he wanted to, and only isn't working because he knows he doesn't have to).

So, while it's not technically his wife's responsibility to pay the child support, she might choose to do so if the alternative is that her husband goes to jail.

Do you still have to keep paying child support after 18 and if shes moved out and working?

No. Once that child is 18, he/she is considered an adult and no longer a child. Once they are 18, and graduated from high school, you no longer need to pay for child support. It does not matter if he/she is working and moved out. You do not need to pay any more.

Do you have to pay child support to a child that was born in Mexico and now the mother wants child support?

It is in the best interest of your child for you to pay child support. If the child is still living in Mexico and the mother has a court order, you need to pay support. If there is no court order, you are not legally obligated to pay support.
