If you claim one (1) dependent (yourself) on your W4 form you will get more money in your paycheck, and less will be withheld as part of tax withholding.

Some people end up having to pay money to the Government at tax time because not enough was withheld during the year. Those people sometimes choose to claim zero (0) dependents on their W4 so that more money will be withheld during the year and they will have less to pay at tax time.

Enter 0 or 1 on a W-4 form to have more money withheld?

The fewer exemptions you claim on your W-4, the more income tax will be withheld from your pay. Therefore, 0 exemptions will cause more withholding the 1 exemption.

If you claim zero on your taxes will you still owe money when you file?

for best tax return claim 0 at work and when you file claim 1

I was wondering if I should file a 1 or a zero for my taxes I am unsure of which to file this is for what would be taken out of my paycheck each time from work.?

Most people claim no exemptions for their primary job and 1 for any other jobs. You can look up IRS form 919 for a worksheet to figure it out mathematically.

2009 stimulas money in your paycheck when?

How do you know whether to claim 0 1 or exempt for taxes?

If you claim 0 - you will be taxed the most. If you claim 1 (which is yourself) you will presumably be taxed the right amount and break even when tax time arrives. However, claiming exempt means that you are exempt from paying taxes and that would require you to be WELL below the poverty line, making little to no money at all. You would have to figure out what the amount of income is that allows one to be exempt, I don't know the figure. Many people suggest claiming 0 to be on the safe side and just get the money back from the government when you file taxes. Others say, claim 1 and don't allow the government to have a tax-free loan with your money! I would claim 1, see how much is withheld and look at a tax table to see what the amount of money is that should be withheld and determine if claiming 1 will get you there. If it won't, then you'll wind up owing and you don't want that, so then change it to 0 and you should be fine. As for exempt there are very few people who qualify for tax exempt status. Chances are, you're not one of them.

What happens if you claim 0 on line A of a W 4?

Line A is in the 'Personal Allowances' section. Most people put 1 there, but sometimes people put zero, even when they don't have to, if they want more deducted, to avoid owing tax or to get a bigger refund. Higher numbers in the personal allowances section mean less withholding from a paycheck. Lower numbers in personal allowances mean more money is withheld from the paycheck. Zero is the lowest possible number.

How much more money do I get for claiming 1 instead of 0 on my paycheck?

This cannot be determined without knowing your income as the calculation changes as income increases. For example if your annual income is $20,000 you will get a larger amount than you would if your annual income was $60,000.

How much will be taken out of your paycheck in Nevada if you claim 1?

You NEVER do have any deductions for federal taxes or other items from your net take home paycheck when it is issued to you. The net amount that is on the paycheck that you have in your hand is your net pay for the pay period after all of the federal taxes and other necessary withholding amounts have been withheld from your gross earnings by your employer payroll department. You should get the information from your employer payroll department if you really need to know the correct numbers or amount that should be deducted from your gross earnings not from your paycheck.
