The "salt cleaning system" is not a cleaning system it is a chlorine making system. If you are having plaster problems - look at the method of maintaining other chemicals - pH, Total alkalinity or the person who is supposed to maintain and test the water etc.

ABSOLUTELY. I've had two salt water pools (first concrete, now Fiberglass) and never need to add chemicals once the system is balanced in the Spring. I only need to replenish the salt due to splash out as new water is added. Most generation systems have a shock mode, and as long as the system is sized correctly for the capacity of the pool, your in good shape. If I have a party (with young kids) I may manual shock in the evening. I have never had an algae problem. This is the closest you'll get to a low maintenance pool without huge costs in chemicals. This is the reason the chemical companies don't want you to know about this. Selling chemicals is HUGE business in the USA and why years ago, the only place I could purchase a system was from Australia. It's getting easier now. HIGHLY Recommended.

It can. Even with properly salt pool balanced chemicals the salt can leach out mineral from the pool equipment and poor quality salt that will stain "cement" pools. When deciding on a salt pool make sure that the pool lining and pool equipment are salt compatible. Pool builders don't explain this to prospective pool buying because it will increase the purchase price and the stains are not notice until several years after construction.
