Not really. A meteor is a glowing streak of light in the sky caused when a rock falls from space and gets heated to incandescence by friction and compression. There really isn't a "tail". We see it as a "streak" rather than as a point because the air itself is heated to glowing by the passage of the rock. And also because of the "persistence of vision" where our mind continues to "see" something that was there a fraction of a second ago.

"Persistence of vision" is why we see motion pictures as "motion" pictures instead of what they really are; a sequence of still images that changes thirty times a second.

yes, when entering our atmosphere there is friction on the meteor causing it to burn up therefore it looks like it has a tail.

Do meteoroids have tails?

Comets have tails as they consist mainly of ices, which vapourise when the comet approaches the sun, taking some of the dust off with it. Meteoroids are mainly made of rock, their surfaces tend to stay intact, so they don't have tails.

Planets are made out of iron, rock, and pretty much everything in the periodic table. You could say meteors are concentrates of the iron, rock, and other stuff. When they hit planets they give it that concentrate that they carry.=)that made me sound like a geek
