Kidney stones can be VERY painful. If no treatment for pain is provided, when a kidney stone is traveling, it can cause excruciating pain. There is a stabbing sensation in your lower back and sometimes the pain can be so unbearable that you cannot walk or you "black out" because of the pain.

two years ago i gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, and i thought that was hard. but just recently i had a kidney stone.
I woke up in the morning and my husband had already gone to work and i had a really bad Back pain, i had no idea what it was. so i went to the toilet and tried to urinate but nothing came out. so i went back to bed and it got worse, i was screaming agony, i woke my baby up. i tried to get up to calm him down, but i couldn't move. i had just enough energy to get my cell phone and call my sister and she came down and gave me some pain killers. later that day the pain spread to my groin and i knew i had a kidney stone so i went to the toilet for twenty minutes. there was blood in my urine and then a 0.5 inch kidney stone came out.
so yes, kidney stones are much worse than childbirth from my point of view.

∙ 11y agoWhether kidney stones are more painful than labor and delivery of a baby is subjective. Some patients would agree, while others disagree. One stone may be extremely painful, while other stones may remain in the kidney with no symptoms at all.

Right kidney hurts been to doctor twice no kidney stone?
Ahoy this is stonemkr@tcsn.net and I am a chronic kidney stone former, to date I have had 18 kidney stone surgerys and more to go. It has been my experience with stones and urologist that the NO Stone thing is a typical answer to stone formers from the Doctors. There are so many places that a stone can hide in the kidney and they can be translutent, but you can bet if it is a hidden stone it will appear with time, you can count on it. There are also many other things that can cause a kidney to hurt, all you can do is cover all the bases and keep seeing your Urologist or , different Xrays can find hidden stones sometimes. I feel for you, just keep going and stay strong.

I personally haven't no will I hopefully ever have kidney stones, but my ex did. The pain is described as "worse than giving birth." I hear it actually hurts more coming out. Most kidney stone pain occurs when the stone is traveling through the ureter. The urethra is larger than the ureter. If your body can get the stone to the bladder, you should have no trouble getting it out. It's an odd feeling, but my experience was not painful. A prescription of tamsulosin (Flo-Max) will help dilate the urethra.
