Best Answer

No.

Jews cannot eat shellfish because they don't have the characteristics of a Kosher aquatic being. Any living organism that lives in the sea needs to have fins and scales to be Kosher. Shellfish have neither fins nor scales.

No. Orthodox Jews cannot eat shellfish because they don't have the characteristics of a Kosher aquatic being. Any living organism that lives in the sea needs to have fins and scales to be Kosher. Shellfish have neither fins nor scales.

No, the Torah forbids it (Deuteronomy ch.14).

Orthodox Jews keep kosher, and shellfish is not kosher. Jews can only eat fish if it is not a bottom-feeder and it has fins and scales.

It depends on whether the Jew in question keeps kosher (as he is religiously required to do) or does not (usually because he is less religious).

The religion argues that Jews cannot eat shellfish because they don't have the characteristics of a Kosher aquatic being. Any living organism that lives in the sea needs to have fins and scales to be Kosher. Shellfish have neither fins nor scales.

According to the laws of kashrut (Jewish dietary laws; Deuteronomy ch.14), land animals must have both split hooves and chew their cud in order to be kosher. Pigs do not chew their cud so they are not kosher food animals. (Note that pigs are just one of many non-kosher types of animals.)

The kosher-requirements for aquatic animals are that they have both fins and easily removed scales. Shellfish, therefore, are not kosher.

Jews who eat only kosher food do not eat shellfish. Biblical qualifications for edible fish to be kosher are they must have fins and scales, and shellfish do not.
