∙ 8y agoAccording to the laws of kashrut (Jewish dietary laws; Deuteronomy ch.14), land animals must have both split hooves and chew their cud in order to be kosher. Pigs do not chew their cud so they are not kosher food animals. (Note that pigs are just one of many non-kosher types of animals.)
The kosher-requirements for aquatic animals are that they have both fins and easily removed scales. Shellfish, therefore, are not kosher.
