both cambric and poplin are made from cotton single count. the two are distinguished from each other by the density of the threads. in poplin the warp density is higher than that of weft. where as in cambric the warp and weft densities are equal.

voile is distinguished from the above two fabrics by the use of doubled yarn either in warp or both warp and weft.

What is a poplin?

Poplin is a type of fabric composed of a silk warp with a weft of worsted yarn - basically a string of yarn snakes through perpendicular strings of silk. The weft gives the fabric structure and makes it resilient to wrinkling while the silk gives the fabric lustre and softness. Poplin can be made of a variety of materials. Poplin's relation to the Church is merely by name; during the years when the papacy resided at Avignon, France, the dressy fabric was named after the pope, hence poplin. a Winston Jacob poplin

Can you machine wash supima cotton poplin?

All Supima items can be washed just like regular cotton items. The fiber is significantly stronger than regular cotton so should be more durable over the long term. However, to maintain the best quality of the Supima or cotton item it is always desirable to be as gentle on the fabric as possible. this mainly applies to the drying process. Try never to over dry a cotton item. It is always best to remove the cotton item from the drier before it has been completely desiccated.
