Almost everyone would argue that the colonists did the right thing when they declared independence from England. If they had not done so, it is hard to know what type of country the United States would be today.
Because the King of England wanted to tax the Colonists without giving them representation in British Parliament and because they were tired of paying taxes on the their tea including when the English razed the prices of the tea and they didn't let the colonists get tea from other people because they want into peoples houses and checked for tea bottles to see ware they bot the tea from
The revolutionary era began in 1763, when the French military threat to British North American colonies ended. Adopting the policy that the colonies should pay an increased proportion of the costs associated with keeping them in the Empire, Britain imposed a series of taxes followed by other laws intended to demonstrate British authority that proved extremely unpopular. Because the colonies lacked elected representation in the governing British Parliament many colonists considered the laws to be illegitimate and a violation of their rights as Englishmen. In 1772, Patriot groups began to create committees of correspondence, which would lead to their own Provincial Congress in most of the colonies. In the course of two years, the Provincial Congresses or their equivalents effectively replaced the British ruling apparatus in the former colonies, culminating in 1774 with the unifying First Continental Congress. In short, yes they did have the right to succeed from britain.
In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote the reasons why Americans wanted independence. Americans were upset that the British closed the Boston harbor and imposed the taxes. They did not like that the British were paying the Iroquois to scalp Americans that went too far west. They did not want soldiers put in American homes. They resented paying taxes and not being protected from Indians. They resented not having local trials and some Americans dragged to London to be tried for crimes of treason. They resented not being allowed to buy from Dutch traders who had lower prices but instead being forced to buy from English companies with higher prices.
They won that right.
