Yes, there are over 8400 WORD CHANGES in Mormon Scriptures

The Mormon Church has four books of scripture referred to as "The Standard Works." The Bible is accepted as the Word of God "as far as it is translated correctly." (8th Article of Faith of the Mormon Church.) The Book of Mormon, The Pearl of Great Price, and the Doctrine and Covenants are accepted as scripture without any qualifications whatsoever.

Very few mormons are aware of the thousands of WORD CHANGES and nature of the changes that have been made in the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price since the first editions.

Because of limited space only a brief examination of some of the more serious changes will be given.

The Book of Mormon is claimed to be a translation of "gold plates" from "Reformed Egyptian" writings into English. The "gold plates" were supposedly taken back by the angel "Moroni" and are not available for inspection.

According to "The Testimony of Three Witnesses" which is printed in the front of every Book of Mormon, the follow claim is made about the translation of the "gold plates":

"And we also know that they have been translated by the gift and power of God, for his voice hath declared it unto us; wherefore we know of a surety that the work is true"

Joseph Smith himself stated:

"I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth.... "(Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 194)

According to the "History of the Church" Joseph Smith claimed that when he and the witnesses went to pray about the Book of Mormon, a voice spoke from heaven saying:

"These plates have been revealed by the power of God, and they have been translated by the power of God. The translation of them which you have seen is correct, and I command you to bear record of what you now see and hear." (vol. 1, p. 55)

With such claims we would expect to see the Book of Mormon free of changes. However, a close examination reveals that over 4000 WORD CHANGES, including doctrinal changes, have been made since the first 1830 Edition. As recent as 1981 Mormon leaders have made approximately 200 more WORD CHANGES. Many of the changes change the meaning entirely as well as doctrine. The following are a few examples.

The title page to the 1830 edition of the Book of Mormon as well as "The Testimony of Eight Witnesses," claimed Joseph Smith as, "AUTHOR AND PROPRIETOR." Alt later editions claim, "TRANSLATED BY JOSEPH SMITH, JUN." and Joseph Smith, Jun., "THE TRANSLATOR."

There is no truth in the argument that the copyright laws required Joseph Smith to be named as the author. Smith could have received the copyright simply as "Proprietor." Or, he could have printed the book without a copyright. Regardless of how he printed it, there was no need to falsify the testimony of "eight witnesses." Their testimony today would be considered "VOID" in a court of Law.

FOUR important doctrinal changes have been made in the Book of Mormon concerning the Godhead. The following compares the 1830 edition with all modern editions:

"Behold, the virgin which thou seest, is the mother of God .... "(1830 Edition, p. 25)
"Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of THE SON OF God .... (1NEPHI 11:18)

"... the Lamb of God is the Eternal Father and the Savior of the world; "(1830 Edition, p. 32)
"...the Lamb of God is THE SON OF the Eternal Father, and the Savior of the world;..." (I NEPHI 13:40)

"...behold the Lamb of God, yea, even the Eternal Father!" (1830 Edition, p. 25)
"... Behold the Lamb of God, yea even THE SON OF the Eternal Father (I NEPHI 11:21)

".... the Everlasting God, was judged of the world... 1830 Edition, p. 26)
"... THE SON OF the everlasting God was judged of the world;... (I NEPHI 11:32)

The Church archives has a portion of the handwritten manuscript of the Book of Mormon which was dictated by Joseph Smith and contains 3 of the 4 places that have just been mentioned. The words "THE SON OF" does not appear in the handwritten manuscript in any of these places and proves the current editions have been falsified.

No. The official Bible for English-speaking members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) is the King James Version, which many Christian churches use.

The Church does publish it's own edition of the King James Version of the Bible - in this edition the text is the same as any other King James Version but there are explanatory footnotes and cross-references exclusive to the Mormons (such as cross-references to the Book of Mormon, which is regarded as an additional book of scripture.) This edition was first published in 1981. Mormons are not required to use the Church-published edition. They may use any King James Version Bible purchased from any bookstore or publishing company.

Joseph Smith, the first prophet of the Church, did begin work on a new version of the Bible translated out of the Greek and Hebrew texts, but never finished or published his work. Some of his translations are included in the footnotes of the King James Bible published by the Church. Most of them are tiny edits, such as changing the word "in" to the word "after" in Romans 8:8.

You can read the Mormon Church's edition of the King James Version of the Bible at the "Related Links" below. You can also learn more about what Mormons believe about the Bible.

What are the bad things that they say about Mormons?

Many things that people say against Mormons simply come from someone who is uninformed or has a different opinion. This does not mean that it is bad, but it is often offensive. Those who are uninformed or misinformed often say: -Mormons are polygamist (this practice was banned by the church over 120 years ago in 1890) -Mormons dont believe in the Bible (Mormons consider the King James Version of the Bible as sacred scripture and are encouraged to study it daily) -Mormons don't believe in Jesus (Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is their Savior, just like all Christians) -Mormons are cultish (Mormons live and dress and act just like most anyone else in society. They do not live on compunds, etc.) -Mormons worship Joseph Smith (Mormons believe Joseph Smith was a prophet, just like Moses or Abraham, not a god to be worshipped) -Mormons kidnap, brainwash, coerce, etc (Mormons wish everyone to make their own decisions, and define their standards by Scripture) Those who have different opinions and say things that are offensive to Mormons often say: -Mormons are not Christian (Mormons are not traditional Protestant Christians, but they do still believe in the Bible and salvation through Jesus Christ.) -Mormons are lying (Mormons honestly believe they are telling the truth) -Mormonism is a pyramid scheme (Mormons believe in paying a Tithe and in missions work to gain converts, but believe this is Biblically based and do not seek converts for monetary gain) -Mormons are unbiblical (Mormons believe that they are following the Bible very strictly, but the Bible can be interpreted differently by different people) -Mormonism is false (this is obviously just an opinion, but one that is often offensive to those who honestly believe)

What do Mormons believe so strong?

Mormons believe that the church of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth by Jesus Christ himself and that the church is led by Jesus Christ through living prophets and apostles. Mormons believe in the bible but the church is directed by revelation from God. Mormons believe that they can know the truth of this and be personally led by their own personal revelation.

Does the Bible does talk about the Book of Mormon?

Yes or no, depending on whether you are a Mormon -Isaiah 29:11-12 contains an oracle of a book that the recipient could not read because he was illiterate. If this is to be read as a prophecy of a book yet to be compiled, it could be a prophecy of the Hebrew Bible or the Christian Bible, but Mormons prefer to read it as a direct reference to the Book of Mormon.

Do the mormons believe that jesus died on a pole instead of a cross?

No, Mormons believe that Jesus was crucified on a cross, just like most other Christians. Mormons believe and study the Bible throughly, so the accounts there are what we believe. Mormons dont however use the cross as a religious symbol like many other religions... Perhaps you are thinking of the Jehovah's Witnesses? They do not believe that Jesus died on a cross.

How long have the Mormons been in existence?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) was officially founded in 1830. However, members of the Church believe that their religion is the same as that practiced in the Bible, clear down to Adam and Eve, so some Mormons might say that the Mormons have always been in existance!

What is the difference with mormon Bible and Catholic Bible?

The main difference between the Mormon Bible and the Catholic Bible is in their content. The Mormon Bible, also known as the Book of Mormon, is an additional sacred text considered by Mormons to be a companion to the Bible. The Catholic Bible includes the Old and New Testaments, whereas the Mormon Bible contains a narrative of ancient American prophets and their teachings. Additionally, the Catholic Bible includes books not found in the Mormon Bible, such as Tobit, Judith, and Maccabees.

How do Mormons interpret the Bible?

The Holy Bible is sacred scripture. The "Mormons," or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe the Bible as much as any other Christian Church does. In the Article of Faith, number 8, "We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly. We also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God" People are inclined to question this belief only because we believe that the Bible is not the sole source of scripture or gospel. Mormons interpret the Bible according to Mormon theology. When the Bible clearly disagrees with their theology as it does in numerous places they add the terms 'insofar as it has been correctly translated' to attempt to hide their disagreement with the divine word. They also use 'term switching' in that they re-define key terms in ways which have an entirely different meaning from their clear in context Biblical meaning.
