Before Hera was born to Rhea and Chronos, Chronos was told by Gaia and Uranus that his son would overthrow him, just as he did to his father. Upon hearing this, each child that Rhea bore (Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon) were swallowed whole by Chronos. When their youngest son, Zeus, was born Rhea wrapped a stone in a blanket for Chronos to swallow. When Zeus was old enough, he poisoned Chronos and freed his brothers and sisters, in effect, having them born twice. In this fashion, all major Gods and Goddesses of Olympus had unusual births.
