Did AIDS come from a conspiracy?

That is what some people believe -- that HIV was created by the government with the intent to get rid of gay people and people of African descent. However, any evidence of this is conflicting or not considered credible. Here are some typical samples of conspiracy allegations which have never been proven:

1. The US Military allegedly called for the creation of a "biological weapon" in the late 50's to neutralize certain "threats."

2. The US government allegedly funded a hepatitis study in the 50's. They sought out the most promiscuous gay men they could find. The conspiracy theorists wonder why they specified promiscuous gay men. Why would the number of partners matter unless the goal was to transmit something into the gay male population?

3. The makers of the smallpox vaccine allegedly created or spread the virus by accident while using monkeys to culture their serums. The conspiracy part of this allegation is that they allegedly tried to cover this up.

4. The World Health Organization allegedly used vaccines to infect Africa, Japan, and the US all at once.

Now, it is obvious that all of the above cannot be true, and common sense says that all are probably unlikely.
