To lower the glove box. There are two plastic tab stops sticking up past the top of the glove box. They hit against rubber stops when the box is opened. Fold these rubber pieces to the side (They are attached only on one side so as to act as a hinge point) The glove box can now be lowered. Remove the dampener arm on the right side of the glove box by sliding the end up and out of the key slot. The glove box should be hanging down at this point.

This is how you do it on a 2004 Camry. I expect that your Corola will be the same. Lower the glove box door. Remove the Phillips head screw on the right side of the box.Remove the snubber. Push in on each side of the housing to release the glove box stops. Once the stops clear the dahs,the glove box can be removed. Find the blower housing. The cabin air filter housing is a different color. Release the tabs and pull it out The new filter has instructions for replacing the element. WalMart now sell Fram cabin air filter elements.
It's behind the lower glove box, real easy to change, open the glove box and empty it, next you have to remove the damper it's on the left side at the top just push clip off and slide the damper off the stud. Then just slide the stops on each side then remove them, let the glove box hang near the floor, the filter is in the blower motor, it has a drawer I. The front just slide it out replace the filter. And just put the glove box back in reverse of how it came out
The filter is behind the glove box...just open the glove box past, squeeze the top back edges to allow the rubber stops to clear the frame and the glove box will open further past the normal opening... look straight inside the open space and identify the rectangular shaped carrier... push the releases marked with arrows....and you can then easily slide it out. Air flows from top down. The top side will have dirt and debris.

Your 1987 Honda CRX might die at stops and have a low idle because of clogged fuel injectors or a clogged fuel filter. Sometimes a clogged air filter will also cause these problems.
The blower motor resistor is mounted in the heater box directly behind the dash glove box. Remove the contents of the glove box and push in on both sides of the glove box stops. The glove box door will fold down exposing the resistor. Remove the two screws holding the resistor in the heater box to remove the resistor.
It's real simple. Empty out you glove box first, on the right side there is a small plastic guide. remove it from the glove box. Reach into the box and squeeze in on the sides to get the stops past the stop braces. The box will fall forward. That's it. Behind the glove box you will find the Cabin air filter. Now is a good time to replace it.
Hope this helps. On a Mk2 1997 Mondeo, open the glove till it rests on stops and pull at approx 45 degrees towards you. The axle for the glovebox is set in a groove with stops which stop you accidentally removing the glovebox. If you are not sure, shine a torch by the side of the open glove box and you will see the runner and glovebox axle end.
