Calico cats are mostly female because of genetics.

The term calico refers to a cat that is three colors, now it is possible for male cats to be calico, but it is a rare condition.

The X chromosomes display the colors orange and black, and the white is in a totally separate gene.

Because female cats have two x chromosomes (xx) they are able to display two colors along with white.

now, it is more complicated than that, but that's that basics of it..

although male cats have an x and a y chromosome (xy) the event that male cats have two x chromosomes and a y chromosome (xxy) is very rare, and they are normally sterile. which means they cant breed.

there is a similar condition in humans called Klinefelter's syndrome, or XXY Syndrome.

There ARE dogs that carry the calico coat colour. I don't think there is a pure breed that carries the calico coat, but there are most curtainly muts that are. My dogs are mixed breed and all adopted from an animal shelter.

Black and orange are "sex-linked" genes, the black and orange color is on the "X" chromosome. Because females are "XX" and males are "XY", only females can have two "X"'s each with two different genes for the colors orange and black, one "X" with an orange gene, one "X" with a black.

That depends... Although they may be from the same breed, there are other factors. Were the cats together through their lives? If not, they probably won't like each other, and vice versa. Are the cats the same age? If not, they probably won't like each other, and vice verse. Did the cats live under the same type of household (with children, alone, etc)? If not, they probably won't like each other. Are they accustomed to similar meal times? " " Do they get along well with humans? " "

Calico cats are rare now because only barn cats and strays are having calico kittens now and people are breeding pure bred cats like tabbys and himalayons.

It depends on the personality of the cat. Calico is a certain coat colour, not a breed, so calico cats can be very different from each other.

Calicos are not temperamental. They are known as the more passive cats. They are often smaller than other breeds and like to be held.
