Helen Keller is a little girl who was born being able to see and hear, but became deaf and blind at the age of 19 months due to an illness, possibly scarlet fever. No one is able to help her until one young woman, by the name Anne Sullivan, who doesn't have much experience at helping children, but she has experienced being blind earlier in her life.

The two main characters would be Helen and Anne. Helen is very stubborn and has been babied all her life by her family because they don't know any other way to discipline her. She often throws wild tantrums until she gets what she wants.

Luckily Anne is also very stubborn about getting Helen to learn, they fight a lot as

Anne tries to get Helen to understand that the words she has been spelling to her have meaning and are connected to the objects
